World’s remotest continent, Oceania, consists of 15 independent countries. The most powerful nations and heads of state in the region are undoubtedly those of Australia and New Zealand.
However, a couple of years back, the former president of the Pacific island nation Kiribati also made it into the international headlines. Anote Tong embarked on a trip to the Arctic Circle to raise awareness for climate change. Due to its low elevation, Kiribati is already suffering a lot from the rising sea levels.
